Safety at sea and in the harbour are the cornerstones of our voluntary work.
We will do everything we can to achieve this if you decide to join us and help the people we serve.
To do this, you must complete a 2-week training course.
Firefighting and rescue
We organise this ship safety course in accordance with the guidelines of the Berufsgenossenschaft Verkehr (Ship Safety Division). The course concludes with an examination, which is passed if the participant demonstrates knowledge and skills in the required specialisation. The course comprises 80 hours of instruction spread over two weeks. Successful participation in the course is mandatory for all persons who are not passengers and are taking up employment on board a ship for the first time. In addition, all crew members who are not or no longer in possession of a valid certificate of competency as a fire and lifeboatman must currently complete this course before they can take part in the more advanced safety courses.
The basic training in ship safety (Security Realised Training) is a mandatory part of the Basic Safety Course.
The following documents must be submitted together with the completed registration form before the course:
- Copy of the certificate of fitness for sea service
- Copy of identity card (front and back) or passport
We are in contact with some schools who will do this for us.
We will also be producing a course booklet: Safety in the harbour.
So that you feel safe
